On the way back from Indianapolis this weekend, I ended up talking to the dean of admissions for IUPUI. We ended up touching on admissions trends, tuition, and of course politics. Of the various topics we discussed, I was really interested in learning more about eLearning.
Learners are asking for more customization in how they consume their education. Flexible timed courses, one-year programs, and remote learning are all initiatives underway. What intrigues me the most are online simulation learning.
HBS announced this year that they will be launching a series of simulations that allow for experiential learning. While simulations will never replace core teaching, it's a great way to test whether the learner has acquired the knowledge by allowing the learner to apply the knowledge.
Businessweek also ran a pretty interesting story about gaming for MBAs.
